Bronchial Carcinoma ( Bronchogenic carcinoma ) causes and treatment

Aetiology of bronchial carcinoma

1, Cigarette smoking (90%):
  • Cigarette smoking is the most important causative agent to develop Lung cancer.
  • About 85-90% of lung carcinomas patients are smoker.
  • Directly related to content of Tar in cigarette.
2, Radon gas (5%):
  • Second most common cause is Radon gas exposure.
3, Industrial pollutants:
  • Remaining are due to pollution like industrial pollutants e.g asbestos,. ionizing radiation,  cadmioum, chromium, berylium e.t.c.
4, Viral infection:
  • Human papilloma virus ( HPV )
  • Cytomegalovirus ( CMV)
Lung cancers of non-smoker have better prognosis than smoker.
Vit D (sunlight) or UVB exposure have preventive effects on lung cancer.
